Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes
There are several
different terms to describe conditions of
elevated blood sugar. There is Type I
diabetes, Type II diabetes, insulin dependent
diabetes, non-insulin dependent diabetes, diet
controlled diabetes, pre-diabetes etc, etc.
Basically all these terms refer to excess sugar
in the blood stream as a result of inability or
inefficiency of getting the sugar from the blood
stream and into the cells where it can be used
for energy and life processes.
Insulin is required to
allow sugar to get into the cells to be used for
energy. Some people are born without the
special cells of the pancreas that make insulin.
These people need to take insulin their entire
life. There are others that develop diabetes
later in life. These people develop either
dysfunctional insulin production and/or their
cells become resistant to insulin.
These are the people that can help their
situation thru diet and exercise. They are
also prescribed oral medications that reduce
insulin resistance and stimulate the pancreas to
make more insulin.
In the upcoming weeks I am
going to be going into details about the causes
of elevated blood sugar and the steps you can
take to lower your blood sugar naturally.
